Gina Tanaj PRACTICE MANAGER
I have worked predominantly in Australia and London, managing a wide range of sports, spinal and musculoskeletal conditions.
I work with patients both to regain full function and also to prevent recurrence of injuries. I believe that the skill is not in giving you a quick fix, but instead developing a long term perspective on your problem so you have the tools to control and/or eliminate them permanently.
In April of 2010, I completed the Marathon Des Sables, a 250km foot race across the Sahara desert. Learning from this and other marathons I have done, I have developed a greater understanding of the effort and dedication it takes to be committed to training for sporting events. I’m particularly interested in treating patients with sports injuries and who are training for a specific event as well as assessing and managing people with work related pain. I have a great passion for my profession and my approach is very hands-on and tailored to the individual.
SPORTS INJURY AND REHAB SPECIALIST
I initially worked as a physical education teacher and sports coach for 6 years where I discovered my interest in sports injuries and the rehabilitation process. During my time working in education, I learnt the importance of looking after your body and health. With my main enjoyment coming from helping others learn new skills, adapting and overcoming challenges, I then decided to pursue a career in Physiotherapy.
I am interested in musculoskeletal and sporting injuries, helping clients return to their sport and things they love. I have always had a passion for promoting healthy lifestyles and my approach to physio is to help guide individuals through a personalised rehab programme, focusing on education and prevention of further problems.
HEAD OF PERFORMANCE
9 years of experience in the Health and Fitness industry, working with a wide range of clients aged 16 to 82 years old. Prior to, I’ve worked with elite athletes in football, NRL and running in the UK and Australia. My studies allowed me to expand my knowledge of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries and develop my ability to apply evidence-based knowledge to managing injuries.
I have always shown a keen interest and passion for the rehabilitation of various injuries. These injuries have ranged from long term pathologies to sport-related injuries. I understand injuries can be frustrating. However, I believe that rehabilitation should be seen as an opportunity to come back fitter, stronger, and more robust than before. My individualised and holistic approach to rehabilitation means tailoring each person’s goals and programs to provide the best possible treatment while enhancing performance.
Outside of work, I am a keen sportsman, having run and played football at good levels throughout my life. I have enjoyed completing various marathons and most recently got into completing triathlons. I also like to play golf (badly) and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
SPORTS INJURY AND REHAB SPECIALIST
Masters of Science degree in Physiotherapy at Brunel University London; graduated with distinction from the University of Guelph in Canada with an Honours BSc degree in Human Kinetics
I worked for over three years at a multi-disciplined musculoskeletal and sports injury clinic providing strength and conditioning to a diverse patient population. My approach as a physiotherapist involves a mixture of functional rehab, manual therapy, and activity/sport specific tailored programmes using the latest evidence to provide the highest quality of care for my patients. I focus on improving overall quality and efficiency of movement to help my patients achieve their goals and reduce the likelihood of injury in the future.
From my sports background in baseball, American football, and golf, I am interested in upper limb injuries, with a particular interest in the shoulder, neck, and mild traumatic brain injury/concussions. I also have a special interest in chronic recurring hamstring strains and lower limb tendinopathies. I am committed to continuing education and currently pursuing further specialised training in the use of vestibular rehabilitation for the treatment of concussions.
WOMEN’S HEALTH SPECIALIST
Since qualifying as a physiotherapist in 2008, I have worked in several NHS hospitals and GP practices and advanced to a senior musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapist.
I developed a passion for women’s health. Leading me to complete further training and specialise in Women’s Health Physiotherapy. I am also a Maternally Fit instructor teaching pregnancy and post-natal classes. I enjoy working together with my clients, focusing on what is of importance and value to them. Combining education, exercise, manual and relaxation techniques to achieve their individual goals. The main focus is to empower my clients, teaching and educating them in order to achieve these.
I am deeply passionate about helping women navigate their post-natal recovery. Whether it is building strength, restoring strength/function or reducing pain. Seeing women re-gain their body confidence is one of the things I love about my job.
I try and practice what I preach. I enjoy keeping fit and healthy. I understand the importance of looking after your body through exercise, nutrition, sleep and relaxation. I love to keep active through pilates, workouts, cycling, walking and keeping up with my two energetic and fun-loving boys.
I graduated from Law School with a degree in Commercial Law at the Police Academy in Bucharest. On moving to London, I worked as Assistant General Manager in the Hospitality Industry for almost 10 years.
Helping others is my passion and even though I am not directly treating clients, I know that my role as a Practice Manager at the Chiswick-Physio will still positively affect the level of care that clients receive and their lives as a result. I am proud to work with a great team and I have got a great satisfaction knowing I am working towards a meaningful joint goal with my colleagues. Helping others and making a difference to someone’s life you must need to care enough and be there for them.
When I am not at the clinic I enjoy being involved with my children’s school and our community. I joined the PTA to help improve not only my children’s time in school but the experiences of other pupils and to create priceless memories.
